Catalogue Note

In 1931-32, Yakovlev participated in the Croisière jaune, the celebrated automobile expedition across the Asian continent organised by André Citroën. He painted the present work in the oasis Kara Khodja, located near the ancient trade centre of Turfan in what was then known as Chinese Turkestan.
