Catalogue Note

The Mdivani family left Georgia for France soon after the Red Army invasion in 1920. One of five siblings, Princess Nina Mdivani met Solomko in Paris and the two of them planned to collaborate on a book of folk tales. The book was never written, but the six illustrations which Solomko painted remained in Princess Mdivani’s collection until she gifted them in the mid-1980s.
