The present sketchbook by Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna gives a rare insight into her personal experience of the Great War when she volunteered as a nurse in a military hospital, and her relationship with her future husband, Nikolai Kulikovsky, whom she had met a decade earlier and finally married on 16 November 1916 in Kiev. The sketchbook contains three pictures of Kulikovsky dating from 1914 and 1915.

The Honourable Arthur J. Collingsworth assembled one of the largest private collections of Grand Duchess Olga’s work. His godfather was Tihon Kulikovsky, Olga’s eldest son. Collingsworth was personally acquainted with Olga and met her several times while she was living in exile in Canada.
