Catalogue Note

The present work dates from the period when Pavel Kuznetsov was studying at the local art school in his native Saratov under Vasily Konovalov and Ettore Salvini-Baracci. Kuznetsov attended the school from 1891 to 1896, and it was towards the end of this period that he met another artist from Saratov, Viktor Borisov-Musatov, who would have a great influence on him.
