Physical modelling of the stage set is still practiced at the Alexandrinsky Theatre using wire, paper, paint or fabric to build accurate 18in models. These models are then presented to the stage builders and engineers who replicate the design to stage scale. Esquisse presents an optical illusion of scale exploring the concepts of assumptions based on what the eye thinks it sees.
