Condition

The work appears in very good condition. The paper is free and slighlty wrapped and dirty A small tear is visible on the middle of the left edge and a small loss is visible on the upper right hand corner

Catalogue Note

Majorelle peint ces fougères à Ton Kui,  montagne de l’Ouest de la Côte d’Ivoire. Elles témoignent du dernier séjour de l'artiste en Afrique noire en 1952. Ce sujet nous renvoie au célèbre jardin exotique que le peintre aménagea autour de sa villa-atelier de Marrakech et pour laquelle il rapportait de nombreuses variétés de plantes de ses voyages. Majorelle affectionnait particulièrement ces fougères. Il en peignit de nombreuses versions qu'il offrait à ses amis. Voir l'illustration à la page suivante.
