Catalogue Note
Cassatt's etchings depict the celebrated Irish novelist and art critic George Moore. Moore championed the artists of the Parisian avant-garde, and his writing drove the popularization of Impressionism in England. A regular among the circles of bohemian writers and painters in Paris, Moore sat for several portraits by Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and a particularly controversial oil painting by Walter Sickert, among others.
