  • encrier 36.5cm. x 21.5cm; 1ft. 2½in., 8½in.
together with a gilt-bronze and bronze inkwell, Restauration, circa 1825, the cover with a sleeping cherub enclosing two receptacles for inkpot and sander, cover to former now missing, (9cm high, 10.5cm wide, 6.5cm deep), a gilt-metal-mounted green and gilt chinoiserie lacquered encrier, in 18th century style (21cm. wide), together with another, the inkpot in the form of a neo-classical baluster vase and cover cast with masks and drapery, on a verde antico marble base (9.5cm. x 11cm. x 11cm.) and a group of objects comprising a French embossed and gilt leather tray, 18th century, with the remnants of a trade label, (29cm x 19.5cm), a gilt-embossed leather wallet, 18th century, a Florentine pietra paesina rectangular panel, a desk set with three tortoiseshell letter openers, a horn magnifying glass, an ivory seal, two rulers one in wood, one in bone, another large ivory ruler and a strawwork box (7cm high, 22cm wide, (15.5cm deep)

Condition

Chinese Encrier: In overall good conserved condition. The gilt-bronze mounts are dirty and would benefit from a light clean as would the porcelain. The gilt-bronze base beneath the cover is loose and can easily be reglued. Bronze and gilt bronze inkwell, Restauration: some very minor rubbing. Chiniserie encrier: finial to pot missing flanked by chips to lacquer. The cover does not close properly which can easily be restored. Glass liner now missing. Marble base ink pot: some very minor surface dirt which would benefit from a light clean. 18th century leather tray: old marks, chips and scratches and losses espcially to the corners and edge as visible from the catalogue photograph. Wallet: worn. Colour more faded on the front. The front has a papal coat of arms. Pietre paesina panel: minor chips around the edge with a trade label on the revers Alberto Di Castro - Roma - Piazza di Spagna, 5. Letter openers: in good condition. Horn magnifying glass: two medium sized chips to the horn where it joins the looking glass. Ivory seal: hairline crack towards the base. the underside with the name Silvanna. large ivory ruler: a couple of minor scratches. Two smaller rulers in good condition. Strawwork box: old minor marks chips and scratches. The inside is lighter in colour than the rest. The top is much darker then the rest. Note pad and cover: the cover is slightly warped. There are some very minor losses to the leather around the edges. Attractive detail to boulle work.
