Condition

Al three pictures are more yellow in tone but fresher in colour than the catlaogue illustrations would suggest, and all three canvases have been relined. The paint surface of the first (illustrated at the top in the catlaogue) is in good overlal condition except fro two abrasiosn in the trees centre left and old paint losses along the lower edge as well as further small abrasiosn lower right. There are a few very minor scattered old losses on the right in the tress and there is an old uneven vanrish that impedes inspection under ultraviolet. The paint surface of the seconf (middle) is in good overall conditon. There is evidenc eof a thick varnish and surface dirt overall as well as some discoloured retouchings in the sky, as can be seen in the catlaogue illustration. There are scattered paint losses upper right and lower centre and there are some older minor losses from flaking upper left and lower right but these are only visible upon close inspection. Ultraviolet confirms the aforementioned retouchings and reveals a few further minor areas but otherwise it is in good overall condition. Finally the paint surface of the third (bottom) is in good overall condition but again there are old paint losses from now stabilised flaking along the lower edge, there are also very minor losses from an old horizontal surface scratch running through the foreground cows. There is a small square patch on the surface measuring approx. 1 in. centre right. Otherwise there is surface dirt and an uneven varnish overall which impedes ultraviolet examination. All are offered in matching gilt wood and plaster frames in good overall condition.
