Description

  • André Kertész
  • 'NEW YORK'
  • Gelatin silver print
signed, titled, and dated in pencil and ink and with the photographer's 'Photo by André Kertész' credit stamp on the reverse, 1965, printed 1965-66 (Frizot and Wanaverbecq, p. 273)

Condition

This early print, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. The photograph is trimmed to the image along the left, upper, and lower edges, and there is a thin white margin along the right edge. The upper and lower right corners of the image are sharply creased. In high raking light, a few small, soft and sharp creases, some of which appear to break the emulsion, and tiny impressions are visible overall. The reverse of the print is lightly soiled from handling and there are faint yellowed adhesive remnants along the upper edge. The following is written on the reverse: 'New York' and '1-17-65 / #16' [in ink]; and '1965' and 'printed 65-66' [in pencil]. Also on the reverse, the number '96' [circled] is written in red ink.
