Description

- WINDOW AND STAIRWAY OF THE OLD URSULINE CONVENT, NEW ORLEANS
- gelatin silver print (photograph)
warm-toned, mounted to green board, annotations in pencil on the reverse, 1920-26 (Impressions of Old New Orleans, pl. 60)
Provenance
Sotheby's New York, Photographs from The Museum of Modern Art, 23 October 2002, Sale 7851, Lot 156
Condition
This warm-toned print, on paper with a slightly pebbled, almost matte surface, is in essentially excellent condition. A few small deposits of original retouching are visible upon very close examination. The photograph is trimmed to the image, and there is miniscule edge wear.
The corners of the mount are bumped and rounded. There is a one-inch tear along the lower left mount edge, not intruding upon the image. On the reverse of the mount, the following is written in an unidentified hand in pencil: 'New Orleans Genthe'; 'New Orleans'; '834'; and 'No. 13.' The reverse of the mount is soiled from handling.
