Description

  • William Garnett
  • 'INDIAN LAND, PAINTED DESERT, SOUTH OF MARBLE CANYON, ARIZ.'
  • Gelatin silver print
flush-mounted, signed, titled, and annotated in pencil and with the photographer's credit and reproduction rights stamps on the reverse, 1954

Condition

This photograph, on paper with a semi-glossy surface and flush-mounted to sturdy board, is in generally very good condition. The following are visible upon close examination in raking light: various small scratches, impressions, scuffs, and creases (the longest of which measures one-inch extending from the upper edge of the image). The above-mentioned condition issues are barely perceptible as they blend into this highly detailed image. There is miniscule edge wear. On the reverse of the mount are the following notations: 'Top'; 'V'; '6' [circled]; and 'SF-20, GEH, BMA, CAI, CMA, MMA2.' The reverse of the mount is soiled from handling, and there are several abrasions to the upper paper-ply.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
