The photograph's inscription reads: '"...for a transitory enchanted moment man must have held his breath in the presence of this continent, compelled into an aesthetic contemplation he neither understood nor desired, face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to his capacity for wonder." F. Scott Fitzerald from End-game'. The photographer's dedication reads: 'for Mathew from Peter (Beard).'
This early print, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, a few transparent matte deposits and small creases are visible overall. The black margin edges are rubbed, with minimal resultant chipping, and the corners are worn or creased.
