Condition

This portfolio of 25 photographs was produced in a total edition of 132, of which there are 100 numbered copies, 30 proofs numbered I-XXX, and 2 trial proofs. A portrait of Joanna Steichen from 1959 is affixed to the introduction. The plates are as follows: J. P. Occasional deposits of original retouching are visible on some of the prints. There is minor soiling on some of the mounts. J. P. Morgan - There are hinge remnants along the upper edge on the reverse of the mount. Lotus, Mount Kisco - In raking light, thin, long scuffs are visible in the upper right quadrant of the image. Self-Portrait with Studio Camera - The lower edge of the mount appears to have been trimmed. The portfolio label on the reverse of the mount is lifting. Marlene Dietrich - The lower edge of the mount appears to have been trimmed. Homeless Women: The Depression - There are two paper and adhesive adhesions, measuring no larger than 1/4-inch, in the upper right quadrant of the image. There is a 7-inch abrasion to the upper paper-ply in the portion of the mount. The lower edge of the mount appears to have been trimmed, and the portion of the portfolio label with Joanna Steichen's signature on the reverse of the mount is no longer present. Lillian Gish - There are a few scattered matte adhesions of indeterminate nature. The front matter is generally clean but lightly creased from handling. The portfolio case, the front of which is scratched and is splitting slightly along the spine, is in generally very good condition.
