- Gelatin silver print
with credit, title, and numerical notations in pencil and ink and the photographer's 'Interpretive Photography, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York' and reproduction rights stamps on the reverse, circa 1930
Condition
This slightly warm-toned early print is generally in very good to excellent condition. The photograph is on semi-glossy double-weight paper. Consistent with a print of this age, in high raking light, a few hairline scratches and scuffs are visible, as are occasional deposits of original retouching. There is thin, faint graphite offsetting at the print's periphery from the mat window.
On the reverse of the print, 4 yellowed adhesive deposits suggest that this print was at one time affixed to a mount. The credit 'Hine,' title, and numbers '72' and '1E' are written in pencil. 'WR-H-EMP-1' is written in a modern hand in pencil. The reproduction rights stamp reads: 'License to reproduce this photograph is granted upon acceptance of terms quoted. It is not to be used for advertising purposes without written release. If credit line is omitted the charge is automatically doubled. Photo by Hine [credit in ink].' A collection stamp reading 'George F. Connelly, 51 East 42nd Street, New York City' is crossed out.
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
