Catalogue Note

Sur le cadastre, le lot 146 du block 1107 est un lopin de terre inaccessible. C’est ce qui fascine Gordon Matta-Clark lorsqu’au début des années 1970,  la ville de New York dispose aux enchères, pour 25 $, de minuscules parcelles de terrains enclavés dans les quartiers du Queens et de Staten Island. Matta-Clark initie alors la constitution de ce qu’il nomme un « Fake Estate Block ». En l’occurrence, la parcelle représente une bande de 30 cm de large au bout d’une allée privée. Matta-Clark en fait l’acquisition et son projet Realty Position – Fake Estate consiste à rassembler une documentation détaillée et des photographies de la parcelle. Celle-ci comprend également l’acte notarié de sa propriété, rendant cette œuvre conceptuelle unique.
