of flattened cut-corner rectangular form, the sides and base with engine-turned ornament, the lid later enamelled in transluscent blue and painted with a garland of daisies and roses, the interior with engraved initials HG, one end with miniature compartment containing a circular miniature of a lady in 18th century dress, maker's mark I.A incuse

there are small splits and gaps in the base which leads one to believe that the box was orginally enamelled overall. the present enamel on the lid which is in excellent condition must date as does the minitaure from the early 20th century.
