Condition

The picture appears to have been relined in the past twenty years. The picture has rather widespread retouches which are most scattered and dense in the sky, and are much more selective in the bottom third of the composition. The sky may have been quite rubbed in its history and subsequent restoration campaigns appear to have brought the sky back together. There are also retouches in the middle half of the composition in parts of the architecture. There are actually very few retouches in the staffage and boats. The picture should be shown to a professional restorer for further analysis to see if a new approach to the sky is warranted. In a carved gilt wood frame.
