Condition

Panel is uncradled, flat and stable. under a slightly dirty varnish. overall there is very good retention of the paint surface with very nice detail and coloration. a minor abrasion can be seen at lower right corner, one at upper right corner and at upper left corner. it is difficult to see anything under UV light due to the thick varnish. there is one small retouch in one of the flowers at upper right and possibly one or two retouches in background at lower right.

We are grateful to Fred G.Meijer of the RKD, The Hague for endorsing the attribution based on a photograph.  Though dating van Leen's work is difficult, he tentatively dates this painting to the first half of the 1790s.
