Condition

The canvas has an old glue lining which is nicely stretched and stable. The paint surface overall is in good condition, the background is a little thinned in areas but is in no way distracting. Under UV minor localised retouching fluoresces, notably in fine lines attending to the craquelure in the face, neck and sleeve. There is a small area of repaint, perhaps from an old repair of approx. 1 by 1 in., in the collar below the chin. The painting is ready to hang in its present state and is offered in a carved gilt wood frame.
