Catalogue Note

Only two 18th century impressions of this subject on silk are recorded in the New Hollstein. By printing on silk, William Baillie was attempting to link in with Rembrandt's experimentation of using unusual supports, such as oriental papers and vellum. Aside from this work, Baillie also printed Cornelis Claesz Anslo, Preacher (B. 271) and The Goldweigher (B. 281) on silk.
