Description

  • Bartholomeus Breenbergh
  • Diana and her nymphs resting after a hunt with two satyrs spying on them
  • bears monogram on the rock lower right: BB
  • oil on oak panel

Condition

The support consists of a single flat, bevelled and stable oak panel. An old crack visible on the recto has been secured by a single horizontal batten. To the naked eye the painting appears in quite good condition under the discoloured varnish. A further old crack which is stable runs horizontally upper left. Inspection under UV light reveals some scattered retouchings in the sky along the crack and in the darker tones but the varnish masks some older retouchings. Offered in a carved wooden frame with some knocks.
