Description

  • Portrait of a lady, half length, wearing a fur stole and a lace and brocade headdress, with a small dog
  • oil on panel

Condition

The support consists of a single uncradled oak panel which appears flat and stable. The painting is a little dirty and the varnish layer slightly discoloured. Overall the paint surface appears to be in extremely good condition with no sign of wear or any major damage. Inspection under ultra violet reveals only very minor old local spot retouchings, chiefly meticulous touches to the flesh tones and details of the cpstume. The background has been washed over. This lot is offered with a later veneered and ebonised wood frame with gild sight edge, in generally good condition, one or two small chips.
