- signed and dated lower centre: G. deBergh./ Ao. 1656.

Provenance
Believed to have been in the collection of the present owners since the late 19th century.
Condition
The panel support is flat and cradled to the reverse. The support is made up of three vertical panels. The left strip has cracked in the upper section and subsequently restored, as visible on the paint surface. The paint surface is secure and under a discoloured and somewhat uneven varnish. To the naked eye to the work appears in good condition with some localised areas of abrasion and some discoloured retouchings in the background. Inspection under UV light reveals retouchings along the panel joins and crack, and older and more recent scattered retouchings and strengthenings which are not obtrusive and are scattered around the paint surface. Removal of the varnish and application of a new one would significantly improve the overall tonality. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame with some miinor knocks.
