Description
- Anthonis Mor
- Portrait of Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle (1517-1586), head and shoulders
- oil on panel, circular
Condition
The panel support is flat and stable. The picture is now a little dirty and the varnish layer slightly yellowed. The paint surface appears to be in very nice condition, with no major damages or repairs in evidence. There has been a degree of old restoration, mostly local spot retouchings, the majority in the background or the details of the sitter's coat. These have now discoloured and can be clearly seen under ultra violet as well as the naked eye or in the catalogue illustration. The head and face appear very well preserved. The background has also been strengthened.
This lot is offered with a square ebonised wood frame and mount, in good condition.
