Condition

The catalogue illustration is too blue in tone. The support consists of four horizonatal planks, uncradeled with the joins held by canvas strips or old battens affixed to the reverse. The panel has developed a marked convex bow. The picture has recently been cleaned and restored and is in very good overall condition. The panel joins are not visible except on the right hand side where the central join and that below have opened slightly. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals only limited recent restoration, mostly confined to the splits above, details of costume and landscape and the periphery. The varnish is glossy and even and the painting should require no further attention. This lot is offered in a later carved and gilt wood frame, some chips and minor losses.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
