(a) Louis XIV carved & gilded frame with leaf sight, continuous foliate scrolls with foliate corners-&-centres on a cross-hatched ground; dentil back; all re-cut in the gesso; (b) French late Louis XIV carved & gilded frame with foliate sight corners; plain centre panels and foliate projecting corners-&-strapwork;

The first (a) is structurally sound with pronounced cracking at the corners most noticeable in the upper left and upper right diagonal joins. There are scattered minor losses to the gilding at the peripheral edges as can be seen again in the upper right and upper left in the catalogue illustration. There is also loss to the slip on the left hand vertical edge, as can again be seen in the catalogue illustration. The second (b) is structurally sound with some minor losses to the upper and lower left hand corner foliates. There are also some scattered losses to the gilding concentrated on the inside slip. The third (c) has an oak slip and the gilding has gone in some of the minor detail but otherwise it is structurally sound and in good overall condition.
