Condition
The picture is fresher and richer in colopur than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The canvas has been relined and the paint surface is in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint except for some minor flecks of scattered paint loss in the sky and the foliage as can be seen in the catalogue illustration. There is some old now stabilisted lifting in the paint discernible in the upper right and there is further very minor flaking in the foliage centre left. There is a thick discoloured varnish and surface dirt overall. Examination under ultraviolet reveals evidence of some very minor old faded retouching in the sky but elsewhere there does not seem to have been much intervention although the aforementioned varnish makes inspection difficult. Otherwise the canvas appears to be in good structurally sound condition. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good overall condition.
