Description

  • Balthazar Beschey
  • A river landscape with figures
  • oil on panel

Condition

The colours are slightly warmer than in the catalogue illustration. The panel has an old and secure cradle. The painting has recently been cleaned and restored and is in good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet reveals recent restoration or strengthening to the trunk and branches of the main tress, the trunks by the riverside and those on the far bank. Other repairs are minor, chiefly to the heads of the foreground figures and the ground around them and other scattered lcoal retouchings. The varnish is still clear and even and the painting requires no further attention.
