With Frost & Reed, London;
The Grove, Florida.
The Grove, Florida.
Condition
The picture is lighter in tone and fresher in colour than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The canvas has been lined and the paint has been slightly flattened as a result. The paint surface otherwise appears to be in good overall condition with no apparent areas of damage or loss of paint visible to the naked eye. Examination under ultraviolet reveals scattered cosmetic retouching throughout the sky, predominantly to the areas that have suffered as a result of relining. There is also scattered retouching to the canvas edges. The middle ground appears to be for the most part untouched apart from some retouching to the decoration on the back turned boat and strengthening around the contours of the flags and rigging as one might expect. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in very good condition.
