Condition
He is more mellow in tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest and the background is slightly lighter, she is representative. He has been painted on a flat stable three piece panel with two butterfly supports affxed to the left most vertical panel join. The paint surface is in very good condition and there is a nice impasto evident in the lacework. There is no damage or loss of paint however the paint is a tiny bit thin in places i.e. the hair. Examination under ultraviolet reveals some scattered cosmetic retouching in the background mainly down the grain of the wood and along the panel joins. There is also scattered strengthening to the hair and the contour of the face and throughout the costume. She is on a flat stable cradled four piece panel. The paint surface is in very good overall condition. There is no damage or loss of paint except for some retouching visible in the costume. The lacework retains a nice impasto although the bonnet is abit rubbed. Examination under ultraviolet reveals the same restoration as the boy. Offered in matching Dutch style frames in good condition.
