Description

  • Hercules and Deianira
  • oil on canvas, unlined, in a painted niche

Provenance

Private collection, Italy.

Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative. The small-squared canvas is unlined and the paint surface appears dirty under the discoloured varnish. The paint surface is stable and appears in good condition. Very small losses can be made out as well as some discoloured retouchings upper centre, lower left and right. Inspection under UV light reveals a few more scattered retouchings. The canvas would respond well to cleaning. Offered in a later wooden frame with some knocks.
