Description

  • Alessandro Varotari, called Il Padovanino
  • Semiramis called to arms
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The painting is warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old relining which has lost some tension. The paint surface is a little dirty but in very good condition, with the impasto and brushstrokes still fresh. Inspection under UV light points to some minor scattered strengthenings and retouchings but confirms the good condition. A light surface clean would be beneficial. Offered in a carved wooden frame in good condition.
