Description

- The Adoration of the Shepherds
- oil on canvas
Condition
In real this work is slightly less red overall, and the whiter tones are less brilliant and more subtle, than the catalogue illustration suggests.
It has a hard relining. The paint layer is not too thinned, but the varnish needs some retouching around the edges.
Inspection under ultraviolet light shows scattered retouchings: two parts of Christ's swaddling, to the leftmost figure of a boy, to the lower right corner and small retouchings of shadows and dark accents, for example to the hat and the profile of the shepherd steeped in darkness on the left.
This lot is sold in a simple gilt wooden frame, matching that of lot 178, structurally sound with a few small repaired knocks.
