Description

  • Isaac van Oosten
  • Summer landscape with a horse and cart and other figures on a path
  • signed lower left: J.V.Oosten fecit
  • oil on oak panel, in a fine carved and gilt 17th century frame

Condition

The panel is uncradled and has a slight convex bow. An irregular section of between 1 and 1.5 cm along the entire bottom edge has been reglued or perhaps replaced. The painting has recently been cleaned and restored and the paint surface is in good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals scattered local retouchings across the surface, most notably in the central distance and the left hand side of the sky, with a scattering of old repaired losses at the top and to the right of the panel. The restoration has been well carried out and the picture should not require any further attention. Offered with a later giltwood French(?) frame in very good condition.
