Description

  • Charles Parrocel
  • A pair of battle scenes
  • Both black and white chalk on light brown paper

Provenance

Possibly Arthur Lawrence Barnett Phillips (1842-1920) (bears initials LBP and No 200, similar to L.1716, on verso and on mount);
Major Farquharson, Invercauld House, by 1917 (both bear labels on back of frame: MAJOR FARGUHARSON / JULY 26 1917)

Condition

Both laid down. In one case, front of mount stuck down, obscuring edges of sheet (not clear if this mount front is actually stuck to edges of sheet itself or to margins on backing sheet). Signs of vertical fold in centre. A little surface dirt and rubbing, but overall condition of chalk is good and strong. Sold in 20th-century dark wood frames.
