Condition
This work has been carefully presented. The sheet has darkened somewhat, in yet the bodycolour has survived well. The sheet appears to have been slightly rubbed and there are two semi-circular scuff-marks visible in the sky. The sheet is attached to the mount with two hinges along its upper edge. This work has not been laid down.

Catalogue Note
Lear arrived in Jerusalem in March 1858, travelling on to Petra and then the Dead Sea, which he considered 'more like a calm Italian lake than as I have heard it described'.1
