Catalogue Note
The powerful handling of pen and wash is reminiscent of a design for a stained glass window in the Cathedral of Perugia, by Hendrick van den Broeck, known as Arrigo Fiammingo, which was sold some years ago in New York.1 This artist was the brother of Crispijn van den Broeck, and spent most of his mature life working in Italy, Perugia and Modena, and also in the Vatican. Although very little is known of his drawing style, it is not impossible this drawing is also by him.
