Oil on canvas, lined. The picture surface is somewhat flattened. There are two short lines of white at the bridge of the sitter's nose and the right eye and a few other lines of white along the left edge. The varnish is dull and there are additions over it in the background. Under UV light, these additions fluoresce as do small dashes and dots in the sitter's nose and mouth.
