Provenance

With Henry Graves & Company, Ltd., Birmingham;
Probably London, Christie's, 24 June 1955, lot 76.

Condition

Oil on lined canvas. There is a fine, stable web of craquelure across the picture surface. Under UV light, the varnish fluoresces green and is difficult to read through. There are some minor scattered spots of inpainting visible in the top quarter of the work and a line of inpainting in the upper center, approximately 2 inches from the top edge of the work. This likely repairs a previous tear and is visible to the naked eye.
