Condition

Oil on cnavas, lined. The picture surface is in generally good condition with a flattened, stable web of craquelure visible across the picture plane. Under UV light: there are both newer and older inpaints visible. The older inpaints are mainly in the sky and address the previously mentioned craquelure. The newer inpaints are scattered across the lower half of the canvas, though horizontal lines of inpainting 6 inches and 12 inches long extend from the right edge under the peacock.

Siegfried Loraine Sassoon CBE, MC was an eminent English poet, writer, and soldier. Decorated for bravery on the Western Front, he became one of the leading poets of the First World War.
