Description

  • Roman School, Circa 1660
  • Portrait of a young woman
  • oil on canvas, unframed
  • 24 5/8 by 18 1/8 in.; 62.5 by 46 cm.

Condition

Oil on canvas, unlined and unframed. The canvas is slack on the stretcher. There are losses and frame abrasions at all four edges. A hole with associated losses two inches from the left edge. Additional losses scattered throughout, especially in the lower right corner; two inches to the right of the aforementioned hole; and in the background at right. Under UV light, a green varnish fluoresces over the majority of the work, though this seems to have been selectively cleaned to reveal the sitter's skin. Small scattered repaints and areas of strengthening are visible.
