Catalogue Note
Paul Gustav Fischer was a talented artist best known for his depiction of cities throughout Scandinavia, Germany and Italy. The son of an artist, Fischer’s great grandfather was a Jewish immigrant to Denmark from Poland. Fischer found the success as an artist that his father never had, being popular with many private collectors. He traveled to Paris and Rome in the early 1890’s and received a commission from the King of Norway to paint the dissolution of the Union of Sweden and Norway in 1905 that marked the final independence of the Norwegian state.
