Condition
The canvas is lined. The surface is in generally good condition aside from fine craquelure, dirty varnish and thick surface dirt. Some abrasions and obvious retouching particularly around neck of child and hand of woman holding basket. Under UV; a thick masking varnish.

Saint Benedict is shown holding a golden staff and is accompanied by Saint Flavia, who bears the palm and crown of martyrdom, and a young woman, the sister of Placidus (Benedict's pupil who departed on a teaching mission to Sicily and was murdered by Moorish pirates at Messina, along with his sister).
