The King of the Super Tuscans and a monument to excellence and longevity - I have superb examples from the Seventies in my cellar (address not supplied!). Sassicaia launched Bolgheri on the wine-making map, with the grapes coming from four plots over 60 hectares. Usually 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, the wines are classy 'racehorses', with breed and stamina, standing up nobly to the best competition from round the world.
