Catalogue Note
Verdi made his final visit to Naples to direct the revised Don Carlos at the Teatro San Carlo in October 1872 and Aida in March 1873, staying until 9 April. He composed his String Quartet whilst there. This is quite an early cabinet-style photograph, apparently incorporating an earlier image of the composer.
