Catalogue Note

Rare: The rare first edition of Negri's work on dance, subsequently reissued in 1604 with the title Nuove inventioni di balle. Negri (c.1535-c.1605) ran a successful dancing school in Milan and his treatise, with its elegant engravings of dancers in period costume, was one of the earliest to expound the steps of dances such as the pavan and galliard.

This copy does not have a replacement engraving pasted to R6, nor does it have a list of errata pasted to the final verso, which are recorded in some other copies.
