Catalogue Note

Mitelli was an engraver, painter and sculptor who produced over 500 etchings of contemporary manners and morals: "his large print oeuvre, illustrating ceremonies and pageants, warfare, folklore, trades and religious paintings, provides a rich cultural source for contemporary Bolognese life" (Feinblatt, Grove Dictionary of Art). Included here are Mitelli's celebrated engravings of Bolognese tradesmen and artisans.
