Condition

The following condition report has been kindly prepared by Jane McAusland FIIC, Conservator and Restorer of Art on Paper, Nether Hall Barn, Old Newton, Nr. Stowmarket, Suffolk, IP14 4PP. Support This large gouache painting by Bridget Riley was mounted in a Perspex box frame, probably shortly after it was executed. As pollution moves into the back of these frames at the edges this causes typical slight edge staining and this painting has this problem. Otherwise the condition of the paper is very good with no damages and it is free of hinges with no lining. Medium The medium is in a very good condition being extremely bright with no fading. Catalogue Note

The present work relates to a series of three large scale canvases entitled Streak, painted from 1979- 1980. Streak I, is currently included in the exhibition ArTricks at The Israel Museum, Jerusalem from June 2013 - February 2014, Streak 2 and Streak 3 are in Private Collections (please see Paul Moorehouse (ed.), Bridget Riley, Ridinghouse, London, 2004, pp.92-3, and Robert Kudielka (ed.), Bridget Riley – Dialogues on Art, Zwemmer, London, 1995, pp.46-7).
