Condition

The following condition report has been kindly prepared by Stuart Sanderson, or Stuart Sanderson Paintings Conservation, 69 Rylett Crescent London W12 9RP. Structurally sound. There is a splash in the upper left where the glaze has been affected and an adjacent small paint loss. The painting appears to be in good condition. The areas of abrasion show under ultraviolet light as fluorescing differently. These are the areas where the original glaze has been rubbed away to reveal the gesso ground, and that has a different appearance. This abrasion appears to be an integral part of the artist's technique. There are however some tiny flakes sitting on the surface in those areas which look to loosely attached to the surface. Held behind glass in a thin wooden frame, unexamined out of frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
